Our lab works mostly on how the central nervous system of vertebrates is patterned during early development, with a particular focus on the nature and significance of developmental compartments and local organizers. Our earlier work revealed the existence of compartments in vertebrates, specifically in the hindbrain region of the CNS, where the cell segregation mechanisms are still being elucidated. More recently, we have been studying how signal molecules secreted by local organisers control the formation of structurally and functionally distinct forebrain regions.
